OMT, founded in 1930, has served engine builders with dependable, high precision fuel injection equipment since the early days of large diesel engine development. In the intervening years, OMT has established long term customer relationships as a reliable partner of engine builders serving the global markets for marine propulsion, power generation and rail traction. Using their long experience and comprehensive know-how in the field of injection systems, OMT has developed tailored solutions to help customers optimizing their engines for highest performance and lowest life-cycle costs, and to pave the way for the decarbonization of ship propulsion. R&D Design Engineer
Job description
Reporting directly to the Design Team Leader, the R&D Design Engineer will join the R&D Department based in Turin. In this role you will identify, propose and implement innovative technology development and solutions, by contributing with own ideas, which will be addressed to relevant customers operating at international level.
Our focus will be on:
Candidates with a degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering and with at least five years' experience in the design of:
- valves and components for high pressure gas systems, or
- diesel injection systems, or
- hydraulic components or mechatronic machines and/or systems, or
- components of internal combustion engines.
The role will be located at OMT factory in Rivoli (Torino).
To be successful in the role you will need to have:
- Full confidence with using solid modeling software (preferably Solidworks).
- Knowledge of methods of structural analysis using finite element methods (preferably Abaqus).
- Ability to size components on the basis of basic mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of the main machining operations by chip removal (turning, milling, grinding) and application of this knowledge in the definition of the details to be designed.
- Passion for mechanics and ability to interface with the staff of the production departments.
- The desire to learn and fully understand the product and its typical problems, and the effect this has on engine performance.
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including internal staff and external partners.
- Fluent in English.
- Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
- Highly resourceful team-player with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
